Our Communities

Kupartiya

Kupartiya is a small Aboriginal community that was established by the late Eric Lawford in the early 1980s, located 130 km south east of Fitzroy Crossing.

Kupartiya centres around the Bohemia Downs cattle station. A 4WD school bus transports school children to Wangkatjungka.

After the Pastoral Award decision in the late 1960s, over 200 Aboriginal people were forcibly relocated off Christmas Creek Station. Later, many of those people returned to land near the station boundary and eventually established Wangkatjunka, Ngumpan, Kupartiya and other smaller communities on Christmas Creek and Bohemia Downs Stations.

Our communities are alive and full of stories about how they came to be and why that place in country is important for health and culture.
